Reliable, lower-cost foundation solutions over weak soils

Building reliable foundations over weak or compressible soils is costly and time-consuming. BaseLok GeoGrids and GeoCells create stiffened platforms that distribute loads more efficiently, increasing effective bearing capacity and reducing differential settlement — lowering construction costs while enhancing long-term structural integrity.

Application Types

The BaseLok™ GeoGrid Load Transfer Platform (LTP) system is a stiff, geogrid-reinforced mat foundation used to transfer heavy structural loads to rigid columns in deep foundation systems. Successfully utilized with auger-cast piles, jet-grout columns, and vibro-concrete columns, it provides an economical stabilization solution for placing non-settlement-sensitive structures over weak soils. Savings compared to conventional pile caps can reach 40% or more.

Encountering poor and compressible soil conditions can substantially increase project costs and construction time. BaseLok™ GeoGrid combined with granular fill creates a composite mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) structure that increases the bearing capacity of soils beneath shallow spread footings and reduces total and differential settlement. This approach eliminates the need for costly deep foundation systems in many common project scenarios.

The static and dynamic loads applied to the subsoil where cranes operate can be extremely high. Subgrade failure or excessive settlement can be catastrophic in terms of equipment damage, lost time, and site injuries. BaseLok™ GeoGrid stabilization enhances the performance of crane platform structures, achieving cost savings of up to 40% and reducing construction time by as much as 50% compared to over-engineered conventional solutions.

Deep foundations and ground improvement can support structures in severe liquefaction zones but are often too costly for structures typically founded on shallow footings. A BaseLok™ GeoGrid-stabilized gravel raft creates a non-liquefiable crust that prevents surface manifestations and bearing capacity loss from seismic events. Project savings of up to 50% have been achieved compared to deep foundation alternatives, making this a compelling option in seismically active regions.

Industrial facilities, warehouses, and logistics centers impose heavy, repeated loads on underlying soils. BaseLok™ GeoGrid systems create mechanically stabilized layers that distribute these loads uniformly across the subgrade, preventing rutting, differential settlement, and structural deterioration. These solutions reduce aggregate requirements, accelerate construction, and provide a durable working surface capable of supporting decades of industrial operations.
